Budva

Until recently being recognized as an independent Mediterranean country in it’s own right, Montenegro has slept for decades in the minds of many knowledgeable travelers who ultimately, didn’t want to see this rich and beautiful country on the shores of the Adriatic sea turn into another Venice, Rome, or St. Tropez.
Budva is the reigning "tourist capital of Montenegro" for all the right reasons.  As one of the Adriatic Sea's oldest cities, Budva's 2500 year history reaches back from the past to offer you a drink on a warm sandy beach, a casual walk along lamp-lit streets, and a concert by Madonna?  Yes, the 'Queen of Pop' is first scheduled to arrive in Budva in 2008, followed by other big acts in concerts sponsored by Budva's affluent city government.  To explain Madonna's unusual arrival to a small town of only 16,000 inhabitants: Budva represents the two sides of Montenegro and is quickly gaining international recognition as its elegant beauty comes to grips with immense commercial promise.

Budva has always been one of Montenegro's and Europe's untold treasures, and in the early 2000s a rush to buy land in Budva left this ancient city flush with cash.  The Surprising Result? In Budva the number of millionaires per capita is higher than any other city in Europe, rivaling Monaco, St. Trope and other luxury hot spots!  The results are surprising and Budva wears its new splendor well.  For instance, fine dining in Budva's old town is mixed with more casual fair found along Budva’s lamp-lit streets.  In no other place do you truly feel the essence of Montenegro's soul than in Budva, and the city draws many people to return to Budva year after year.  Budva is truly the ultimate vacation getaway and despite the hype, Budva offers a little something for everyone and accommodates many budgets from student to sinful millionaire.

Some sights in Budva:

Budva enjoys otherworldly beauty, art galleries set in ancient stone buildings, a rich restaurant scene along lamp-lit streets, and untold hidden corners to lose yourself in.  Nightlife in Budva is a famous standby, but prepares yourself to leave Budva’s untold bars and clubs when they close at 1am and finish your evening mingling with other revelers along the city's many cobbled streets until the wee hours of the morning. Beyond that, don't ignore Budva's beaches! In and around Budva you will find over 11 kilometers (nearly seven miles) of pristine sandy beaches, including the famous nearby beach of Mogren.  You can find Mogren Beach by leaving Budva's antique Venetian walls in the old town and strolling for 500 meters (about 1500 feet) to where the beach rests between several towering cliffs.
