Welcome to Montenegro

Image Would you like to swim in the clear warm sea, enjoy wonderful sandy beaches, forget the smog, polution and the constant rush you may be accustomed to, and get away from it all? Such an exotic surroundings await you in the heart of the Mediterranean, Montenegro.

Montenegro belongs geographically to the central Mediterranean and is located one hour's flight from Rome or Budapest or an hour and a half from Zurich. It shares a southern sea border with Italy, to the east and north it borders on Serbia and Albania, and to the west on Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.

Apart from the international airport of Podgorica and Tivat, you can reach Montenegro by air via Dubrovnik's Cilipi Airport, which is 22 kilometers from Herceg Novi. The national carrier Montrenegro Airlines (http://www.montenegro-airlines.cg.yu/) has regular flights from Tivat and Podgorica airports to Belgrade, Budapest, Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Ljubljana and Rome. has flights from Podgorica to Belgrade (every day at 7,50 i 17,30), Zurich (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 10,50), Frankfurt (Wednesdays at 11,35, Fridays at 15,30 and Sundays at 10,45), Budapest (Mondays and Thursdays at 7,30), Ljubljana (Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10,20) and Rome (Mondays and Fridays at 10,20) and from Tivat Airport to Belgrade every day at 8,30 i 16,30. Golubovci Airport (Podgorica) - is 12 km from Podgorica, 80 Kms from Kolasin, 170 kms from Zabljak, 62 kms from Budva, 65 kms from Bar. Apart from the border crossings at the international airports, there are road crossings, from Croatia at Debeli Brijeg, from Bosnia and Herzegovina at Sitnica, Vilusi, Vracenovici, Sepan Polje and Metaljka, and from Albania at Bozaj and Sukobin. Countries that have special agreements with Montenegro have exemptions from border insurance for motor vehicle, so that green cards are valid for: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Morocco, Malta, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldavia, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Holland, Great Britain, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Israel i Iran.

Montenegro may also be entered via the border crossings in the ports of Bar, Budva, Kotor and Herceg Novi which have sea links with the world. There is a regular passenger and cargo traffic on the routes Bar-Bari i Bar- Ancona. It is also possible to come by sea via Dubrovnik whose port is some fifty kilometers from Herceg Novi. The ferrie belonging to »Prekookeanska plovidba Bar« HORNBEAM, ALBA and SVETI STEFAN depart from Bari (Italy) for Bar every day except Sunday with departures at 21,00 i 22,00, and from Bar to Bari by the same vessels, every day except Saturday, departing at u 21,00 - 22,00. The Italian ferry company VENEZIA departs from Ancona for Bar on Wednesdays at 18,00, and from Bar for Ancona Thursdays at 18,00. Please check the official schedule before planning your trip.

Citizens of the following countries may enter Montenegro without a visa, with only a passport: Albania, Australia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Byelorussia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Holland, Italy, Canada, Luxembourg, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Monaco, Malta, Macedonia, Moldavia, Germany, Norway, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Iceland, Cyprus, Lichtenstein, San Marino, Vatican, Andorra, Estonia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, USA, New Zealand, Japan i Israel.

Citizens of other countries require a visa for entry into Montenegro. The official currency of Montenegro is the euro (EUR) - the common European currency, and foreign currency can be changed in the exchange offices of commercial banks. There is no limit to the amount of currency that foreigners may bring into Montenegro, but they may not take out more than 500 euros if they have not declared a specific sum on entry.

The most promising and probably the most profitable section of the economy of Montenegro is tourism. This ranges from nautical tourism, mountaineering, hiking, hunting, to health tourism in which the <a href="http://www.igalospa.com">Mediterranean Health Center</a> has been the leader . United Nations  recognized Montenegro as the first ecological state, and that adds to the  attractiveness of Montenegro as a touristic location. The mosaic of the country is made up of four national parks: "DURMITOR" - with an area of 39.000 hectares, "BIOGRADSKA GORA" - area: 5.400 hectares, "LAKE SKADAR" - area: 40.000 hectares i "MOUNT LOVCEN" - area: 6.400 hectares.

In 2003 there where 599.430 visitors to Montenegro (10,7% more than in 2002, of whom 141.787 were foreign tourists. 3.976.266 hotel nights were booked (7,8% more than in 2002) of which foreign visitors accounted for 915.738.

Seaside resorts: Ulcinj (Long Beach, Ada Bojana), Bar (Sutomore, Canj), Budva (Petrovac, Milocer, Sveti Stefan, Becici), Tivat (Donja Lastva, Radovici), Kotor (Risan, Perast, Prcanj) i Herceg-Novi (Bijela, Igalo). Mountain resorts: Zabljak (Durmitor), Kolasin (Bjelasica), Berane (Lokve), Rozaje (Turjak).

Health tourism: Mediterranean Health center - Igalo, Dr. Simo Milosevic Centre for rehabilitation - Vrmac. Hunting tourism: Hunting grounds: Lake Skadar, Durmitor, Bjelopavlicka ravnica, Crmnica.
