In the southern part of Montenegro we have Lake Sar and Lake Skadar, and in the north west is the Black Lake which together with the other lakes in the Durmitor region forms the most sparkling string of pearls of nature and the most easily recognizable symbol of the Durmitor national Park.
On the road from Podgorica to the north, surrounded by unique ancient forests lies Lake Biograd. But surprise doesn't stop there, for if you carry on towards the extreme north east of Montenegro you will find another jewel that nature has given to this small but magical country. The town of Plav is located on the banks of the lake of the same name. The whole Plav region nestles at the foot of the towering Prokletije range which nature has endowed with unbelievable beauty. Lake Plav is the second largest and the most beautiful glacial lake in former Yugoslavia. Apart from Lake Plav the area, which is ideal for hiking and mountain-biking has a large number of mountain lakes, the most beautiful of which are "Hridsko" and "Visitorsko" Lakes which contains a floating island. ProkletijeApart from the mountain ranges and lakes of this region there are also springs in the carst rock, the most beautiful being "Ali-Pasha's Springs" and "Oko Skakavica", as well as mountain paths and mountain terrain with the highest peaks in Montenegro. Ali-Pasha's SpringsThis area is known for the very high number of émigrés who live mainly in the USA. Every year on the 2nd August the local people organize traditional gatherings at Ali-Pasha's Springs, which are normally attended by a large number of émigrés who originate from the area and who come from all over the world. We warmly thank our dear friend Sead Jasavic for these photographs without which the presentation of these beautiful areas would not have been possible on Montenegro.com.
