The Sunny Steps

ImageFestival 'The Sunny Steps' has been traditionally held in the beautiful Herceg Novi fortress of Kanli Kula ever since 1994. Across the impressively designed stage of this year's Sunny Steps Festival paraded, among others, Kemal Monteno, Goran Karan, Ivana Banfic, Zeljko Joksimovic, Bojan Marovic. The concept of the Sunny Steps has remained unchanged from the start: on the first evening there was the awarding of the Princes prizes for the most successful artist of the past year from Ex-Yugoslavia in sixteen categories. This year the competitors included Vlado Georgijev, Zdravko Colic, Kemal Monteno, Bojan Bajramovic, Anabella, Aleksandra Radovic, Ana Stanic, Goca Trzan, Ivana Banfic, Maja Nikolic, Hari Mata Hari, Magazin, Crvena jabuka, Zana and other locally famous names of the Balkan stage. The greatest success amongst them was achieved by Zeljko Joksimovic who won the award for the best male interpretation, the best composition and the hit of the year with the song 'My little deer''. On the second evening twenty five young artists competed in the program entitled ''New stars'', whose winner is entitled to compete in the last evenings competition when the "Song of the Summer" is chosen. Image At the Sunny Steps 2004 the competition for new stars was won by Ivana Popovic with the song ''Go away'' with which she competed in the ''Song of the Summer'' and notched up a great success by winning third place. ''The Silver Mermaid'' in the ''Song of the Summer'' was won by Goca Trzan with the composition ''The Dress''. ''I think the song is very good and I am pleased that the public was excited, and that's the most important thing. The whole of my new album which I am recording this Summer is made up of hits, and I may go to America, although it's always difficult for me to tear myself away from delightful Herceg Novi'', said Trzan after the presentation of the awards. The winner of this years Sunny Steps in the opinion of the jury of experts is Romana with the song "Never and forever", written for her and arranged by Marina Tucakovic and Zeljko Joksimovic. "I believe this song and this festival will be a turning point in my career. I must admit that I did not expect such a reaction from the audience, especially here in Herceg Novi. I'm not sure what happened and why they whistled, whether they didn't like the song or for some other reason but in the end all will turned out OK", said Romana after receiving the ''Golden Mermaid'' and the prize of twenty five thousand euros awarded to the winner of the Sunny Steps. ImageImageA new feature of this years festival was the cooperation of representatives of Herceg Novi Town Council with the organizers of the Sunny Steps, so that for the first time the festival was opened by the town mayor, Dejan Mandic, who amongst other things said that the festival and the town have the same spirit and that Herceg Novi needs the Sunny Steps just as the Steps need Herceg Novi. In this connection the festival director, Slobodan Bucevac, and the executive stage director, Vuk Rajkovic, promised better organization and content for next year. As years pass on, the Sunny Steps are more and more becoming a part of the official tourist attractions of the Bay of Kotor. Nebojsa Mandic ImageImageImageImage
