Meljine

Meljine is a peaceful coastal settlement on the Herceg Novi riviera, set between Igalo and Zelenika just outside the town centre. Its defining landmark is the Lazaret, a historic complex begun by the Venetians in 1732 as a quarantine station and hospital guarding the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, later expanded under Austro-Hungarian rule. The handsome old buildings, with their imperial-era architecture and maritime past, still anchor the waterfront, and part of the complex has been restored as the five-star Lazure Hotel and Marina, with berths for visiting yachts and a smart seafront promenade.
