Located at the end of the beach promenade is the Igalo Institute, a health resort known throughout Europe. The resort’s sludgy, slightly radioactive sand is used as a naturopathic treatment here. Those who do not wish to book a treatment in the therapy center can do as the locals do, and simply wade through the therapeutic mud on the beach. The silty sand can be applied all over the body and left to work its magic whilst light aerobic exercises or sunbathing are undertaken. This is considered to be an effective method of treating rheumatic complaints, sport-related injuries and skin irritations.
