Perast is situated beneath the hill of St.Ilija, across the entrance Verige, on a place where the bay of Risan is separated from the bay of Kotor. It is known that Perast is the oldest settlement on the coast. Archeologists have found remains from Neolithic culture (3500 year BC) and also numerous archeological findings which confirm that there was a continuous settlement that goes from Illyrian, Roman and early Christian period till today.
